/by/in(以，用)，to/towards(向，朝)等重點(diǎn)介詞進(jìn)行了比較，同時(shí)強調了with結構；詳述常用動(dòng)詞do，have，make，take的特殊含義及用法；對include/contain(包括，包含)，puton/wear/dress(穿，戴)，find/findout/discover(發(fā)現)，cost/spend(花費)，turnon/open(打開(kāi))等近義動(dòng)詞進(jìn)行了細致的辨析。
(二)重要結構(KeyStructures)以語(yǔ)法為綱，用淺顯易懂的概念和例句層次分明地闡明語(yǔ)法，著(zhù)重分析和比較各種語(yǔ)法現象之間的聯(lián)系和區別，找出它們的不同點(diǎn)和相似之處，以求使用上的準確性；反復講解了中國學(xué)生不易理解和掌握的語(yǔ)法，如冠詞、分詞結構、虛擬式等；對一般完成時(shí)與完成進(jìn)行時(shí)、一般將來(lái)時(shí)與將來(lái)進(jìn)行時(shí)、一般將來(lái)時(shí)與begoingto形式、would與usedto、限定性與非限定性定語(yǔ)從句、現在分詞與動(dòng)名詞等易混淆的語(yǔ)法難點(diǎn)做了細致的比較；詳盡地介紹了并列連詞、關(guān)聯(lián)連接詞、連接性副詞和關(guān)系代詞的用法及注意事項。
(三)特殊難點(diǎn)(SpecialDifficulties)幫助讀者解決同義詞、同形詞、同音詞、動(dòng)詞短語(yǔ)以及各種特殊句型的使用問(wèn)題，如travel/journey/trip/voyage(旅行)，steal/rob(偷，搶)，job/work(工作)和系動(dòng)詞grow/get/turn/go/come/fall等同義詞之間的區別以及特殊結構too...to，enoughto，形式賓語(yǔ)it，thereis/itis等。
(四)多項選擇問(wèn)題(Multiplechoicequestions)從語(yǔ)法、句法、詞法、語(yǔ)言思維習慣和文化傳統諸方面逐個(gè)分析習題答案，指出它們?yōu)槭裁磳?、為什么錯，使自學(xué)者知其所以然；對課文中未涉及到的重要句子結構、語(yǔ)法、詞法等作了必要的補充；同時(shí)列舉了適量的例子，以助讀者增強理解；對類(lèi)似的語(yǔ)法現象、同義詞、近義詞等進(jìn)行了詳盡的比較和分析，并使之與“精讀”和“特殊難點(diǎn)”形成相互參照，互為補充；對中國學(xué)生容易答錯的習題以及似是而非的選擇答案作了特別提醒。
